The completion of repairs to the War Memorial in the cemetry on Mattersey Road is being celebrated by a gathering at the cemetery in September. Please look out for the date here and on the Village Facebook Page. All welcome.
In October, when the new White Letter Box has been erected and the Scheme launched, there will be another dedication event.
Everton Cemetery (pictured right) is located on Mattersey Road. The cemetery is maintained by the Everton & Scaftworth Joint Burial Committee, whose members are the Everton Parish Councillors. It is funded by Everton Parish Council, Scaftworth Parish Meeting and a small grant from Bassetlaw District Council.
Burial Committee meetings usually take place following Everton Parish Council meetings, either when there is business to transact or at least quarterly.
The minutes of the meetings can be viewed on our Minutes & Publications page.
We have recently reviewed the Cemetery Regulations The changes include the fact that monuments incorporating slabs are now permitted. The use of kerb sets remains prohibited (as in many cemeteries) in view of the problems of subsidence and maintenance.

Below is a photograph of the Memorial cross in the cemetery, which bears the inscription: “LEST WE FORGET”, “TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN EVER GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF EVERTON & SCAFTWORTH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR” and “ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS OF EVERTON & SCAFTWORTH.”

Nottinghamshire County Council have published on their web site a list of all those commemorated on the memorial, together with a history of each individual. Please click here to view this.
