April Update
The April Meeting was well attended – despite all being squeezed into the Tea Rooms. It was good to see so many people involved in the democratic processes, bringing their views to the Council.

Everton Village Youth Representatives
The role of a Parish Council is to represent all voices and all shades of opinion. One group of people singularly unrepresented are the young people of Everton. Many of the items that come up onto our agenda for discussion are things that will have a real impact on the lives of those under 18. We must therefore try to ensure that young voices are heard, so that we can take account of their views; take a long-term perspective of the decisions we are making. It would be very helpful to the Parish Council if we had Youth Representatives who could contribute to the open parts of the meeting, by letting us know the views held by the young people of Everton. In addition, this might make an interesting item on a student’s CV/University Application, or fulfill part of the Volunteering / Community Service section of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. If you think you might be interested – Either: contact theclerk@evertonparishcouncil.uk . Or perhaps you might like to attend one of the parish council meetings which are held at 7.15pm on the first Monday of every month.
Bassetlaw District Council runs a thriving Youth Council and this has proven a great success for many young people. Bassetlaw Youth Council is made up of young people (11-19 years) from across the whole of Bassetlaw who want to influence local decisions about the District. They are passionate about the place where they live and want to ensure that young people’s views are heard. The Youth Council provides opportunities to raise awareness about the issues that matter to young people and campaign at a local and national level. Work on projects that make a difference to their communities these include working on a health film, tackling litter problems, sharing digital skills with older people and working on an anti-bullying campaign. The Youth Council also provides opportunities to volunteer, develop a range of skills and to address a wide range of different people from across the sectors and gain an insight into how local democracy and services work. Details of the Scheme can be found here.
